Howard Levy remembers going to the Civic Arena, the Syria Mosque and the Stanley Theater in the early 1980s to see bands such as Yes, Genesis, King Crimson and their progressive-rock peers. By the end of that decade, and especially by the early 1990s, prog rock's popularity had plummeted. But as with any genre that once had legions of fans, there are always the faithful who hang on to ancient ticket stubs, posters and records, and seek out news of such bands via the Internet. Levy thought the genre had vanished until a friend told him about an underground scene nine years ago. "I was startled this music still could be found," says the Upper St. Clair resident. |
